5 Signs of Endometriosis You Should Never Ignore

Nov 24, 2025

Endometriosis is a complex and often silent condition that affects nearly one in ten women. Yet many go years—sometimes more than a decade—without receiving the correct diagnosis. Symptoms are frequently normalised, dismissed, or mistaken for “typical” menstrual pain.

However, early evaluation and treatment can make a significant difference, helping to reduce pain, prevent progression, and improve fertility outcomes. Here are five signs that should never be ignored.

1️⃣ Chronic Pelvic Pain

Persistent pelvic pain is one of the most common symptoms of endometriosis.
It may be:

  • sharp or dull,
  • cyclical or constant,
  • localised or radiating to the back or legs.

If pelvic pain interferes with your daily life, work, or mobility, it deserves a thorough medical assessment.

2️⃣ Heavy or Painful Periods

Periods that are unusually painful or heavy are not something you should have to “put up with.”
Severe menstrual pain requiring strong pain relief, or bleeding that feels excessive, can be strong indicators of endometriosis.

3️⃣ Pain During Intercourse

Pain during intercourse (dyspareunia) is a common symptom, particularly in cases of deep endometriosis where lesions affect the uterosacral ligaments, vagina, or rectum.

Although often difficult to talk about, this symptom should be taken seriously and evaluated with care.

4️⃣ Ovarian Cysts / Endometriomas

Endometriomas are ovarian cysts formed by endometrial tissue.
They can cause:

  • intense pelvic pain,
  • hormonal irregularities,
  • changes to menstrual cycles.

A pelvic ultrasound is often the first step to detecting and assessing these cysts.

5️⃣ Difficulty Conceiving

Endometriosis is one of the leading causes of infertility in women. It may:

  • affect ovarian reserve,
  • create adhesions,
  • disrupt ovulation,
  • block or hinder the movement of eggs or sperm.

Understanding the cause early can improve fertility outcomes, either naturally or with tailored reproductive support.

Why Early Diagnosis Matters

Recognising endometriosis early can:

  • slow disease progression,
  • significantly reduce pain,
  • prevent complications,
  • improve fertility,
  • allow personalised, minimally invasive treatment planning.

Modern care prioritises precise diagnosis and minimally invasive surgery, offering women effective long-term relief.
